When Satish Kaushik Ran Across Train Tracks To Celebrate His First Acting Payment Of Rs 500

Actor-filmmaker Satish Kaushik left multiple lives colourless on the day of Holi. The Tere Naam director passed away at the age of 66 in Gurugram on 8th March. Known for his comic timing when on-screen and polished stories when behind the camera, Satish has left a void that no one can fill in showbiz.

Here we share a trivia with you from the time when Satish made his acting debut and what he did out of his first payment!

Satish¡¯s first stint in cinema was a small role in Naseeruddin Shah and Smita Patil¡¯s 1981 film Chakra. In an old interview, Kaushik revealed getting paid Rs 500 as his first remuneration. Describing himself as ¡®very thin and lanky¡¯, Satish recalled his NSD classmate Suhas Khandke who helped him grab this opportunity.

Suhas who was assisting on the film had taken Satish to the production house and expressed his recommendation. Satish shared with Indian Express, ¡°He just introduced me to some random boys in the company. He said, ¡®for a particular role I am suggesting Satish. About acting, you don¡¯t worry!¡¯ That¡¯s how I was taken in the film and my remuneration was Rs 500.¡±

Calling it one of the biggest days of his life, Satish shared, ¡°I went to the station and wanted to take the fast train. So, I jumped on the track to go to the other side. Trains came from both sides and people started shouting ¡®marega, kya kar raha hai?¡¯ But they did not know the level of my excitement. After I got off the track, I bought two bottles of cold drinks. That¡¯s how the journey of an actor is going to start, or maybe end (laughs).¡±

Satish also recalled Naseerudin Shah¡¯s reaction to seeing him on sets on the first day.

He recalled Naseer saying, ¡°Arey bhai, shooting dekhne aaye ho? (Are you here to watch the shoot?)¡± To which Satish replied, ¡°Nahi sir, picture mein kaam kar raha hoon (No sir, I am working on the movie.)¡± Even director Rajkumar Santoshi, who was the first AD on the film appreciated him.

¡°After I gave my first shot, Rajkumar Santoshi came to me and said ¡®good actor yaar¡¯. I said thank God at least someone said that,¡± Satish shared.
