Rajkumar Hirani wrote and directed Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. The first movie in the Munna Bhai film series before its sequel, Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006), was released in India on December 19, 2003. In the movie, Sunil Dutt plays the father of his real-life son, Sanjay Dutt, who plays the title character Munna Bhai, a gangster in the Mumbai underworld. This is Dutt's last film role. The film stars Gracy Singh as the female lead, who was replaced by Vidya Balan in the follow-up. Arshad Warsi plays Munna's sidekick, Circuit, while other actors Boman Irani, Rohini Hattangadi, Jimmy Sheirgill, and Neha Dubey make appearances.

Directed by Tom Shadyac, Patch Adams is a 1998 American biographical comedy-drama film that stars Robin Williams in the title role alongside Monica Potter, Bob Gunton, Daniel London, Peter Coyote and Philip Seymour Hoffman. It is set in the late 1960s and early 1970s and is mostly based on the biography of Dr. Hunter "Patch" Adams and Dr. Adams and Maureen Mylander's book Gesundheit: Good Health Is a Laughing Matter.
Despite receiving negative reviews for its sentimentality and direction, the movie was a box office success, earning $202.3 million against a budget of $50¨C90 million.
