We Have To Create An Environment Where Kids Would Love To Learn, Says Kareena
Kareena Kapoor Khan - a successful Bollywood actor who has bagged six Filmfare awards for her astonishing performances. She is one of the highest-paid female actors in Bollywood. Known for her versatility in acting, her movies and performances have varied across the genre, some of which focused on important social issues.
Being a mother of two kids, Kareena Kapoor Khan is learning to impart education among the young ones at an early age. While continuing her busy acting career, Kareena is also giving time her family and social causes. Education, according to her, is one of the most important pillars to ensure a solid future for the young ones. She is now promoting Maharashtra government's #EveryChildReading Movement in the state.
¡°Today I met with young children and saw their immense enthusiasm to read and learn. As a mother, I understand the power of reading and storytelling that can inspire and motivate young minds, especially if it¡¯s in a language that they understand well,¡± Kareena Kapoor Khan, who visited Mitha Nagar Municipal School in Goregaon.
While interacting with the primary school kids Kareena was seen taking a keen interest to understand how children coped with learning during and after the pandemic.
She underlined how important it is for children to learn early to read, write and count; and the importance of offering learning options in children¡¯s mother tongue. S
¡°We need to create an environment where children would love to learn. School is one such space, and the learning environment at home is equally important. We need to make these spaces supporting and interesting for children to want to read. Teachers, parents, grandparents, can all help young children learn skills that will help them life-long,¡± she said.
Kareena Kapoor Khan believes in awareness and education in real life, not just in her movies. She was appointed as the UNICEF India Celebrity Advocate in 2014. Ever since, she has worked diligently toward the need for child-friendly schooling, including secondary education, under the Right to Education in India.
The National Education Policy 2020 also highlights the need for localisation of learning and the ability to read and write with basic numbers.
The UNICEF, in partnership with the Education Department, Government of Maharashtra, and Pratham Books launched a reading campaign in 2020, Goshtiche Shaniwar (Reading Saturdays). Under this campaign, children were provided with one storybook a week in local languages like Marathi and Urdu, also in English to promote their language proficiency.
¡°It's essential that we focus on foundational learning and equip our children with the basic skills they need to succeed in life. This includes reading, writing, and basic numeracy skills. Through initiatives like the Goshtiche Shaniwar Reading Campaign and #EveryChildReading Movement, we can inspire every citizen in the state to play their role in ensuring every child reading¡ With a strong foundation in place, children not only can enjoy the magic of stories but also unlock their full potential and thrive in the future,¡± said Rajeshwari Chandrasekar, Chief, UNICEF Maharashtra.
