All That Breathes director Shaunak Sen opens up on partial nephrectomy after cancer diagnosis, celebs react
In a shocking turn of events, All That Breathes director Shaunak Sen revealed his cancer diagnosis. Taking to Instagram he shared a bunch of photos from the hospital and he also went on to pen a lenghty note on how he also had partial nephrectomy.
Shaunak Sen, the director of the Academy Award-nominated documentary All That Breathes, experienced a serious health crisis recently. In a recent long note, he disclosed that he had been diagnosed with cancer, which led to a partial nephrectomy. Shaunak Sen posted numerous images of the hospital on Instagram in which he could be seen laying on the hospital bed and other photos featured his friends and family.
Shaunak Sen opens up on cancer diagnosis
The note started as, ¡°Bit of an absurd update. October end, during a checkup for an autoimmune thing I got a shock diagnosis: a routine scan revealed a small malignant tumor in the kidney. Utter bolt from the blue. No kidney-related symptoms, no hereditary history, no big history of drinking/smoking. Urgent surgery was advised.¡±
He explained further that, on December 26th, Shaunak Sen underwent a partial nephrectomy, a procedure to remove part of his kidney. Initially planned as a robotic surgery, it had to be converted midway to an open surgery, leaving him with what Cronenbergian gash across his abdomen. The operation was a success, with the cancer successfully removed. Its accidental discovery turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as it was caught very early at a low-grade stage.
Shaunak has been gradually getting better and regaining his strength ever since. He exclaims that the event has given him the ideal justification for being absent for the previous few months, as he has celebrated Christmas, Diwali, Pujo, and New Year's in a hospital ward.
He also added, ¡°And here's some blurry bad photos of friends who made it all tolerable, alongside the excellent surgeons. (P.s - the masked men in picture 1 are the protagonists of All That Breathes. )¡±
