Narcotics Control Bureau officer Sameer Wankhede has emerged a victory in a high-profile bribery case involving Aryan Khan, amidst the success of his Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan.
Shah Rukh Khan repeated his "Bete ko haath lagane se pehle baap se baat kar" even in Dubai before the release of Jawan and fans were sure he was taking a dig at former NCB chief Sameer Wankhede.
Wankhede even responded to that with a cryptic note, a part of which read, "I fear no heel."
Sameer Wankhede scores a win in bribery case
Now, while Jawan star SRK is celebrating the success of the Atlee directorial which has already become the highest Hindi opener, Sameer Wankhede has scored a big win in 25-crore bribery case involving Khan's son Aryan Khan.
Wankhede,
had filed an application seeking the quashing of a report dated June 16, 2022, which was prepared by the Special Enquiry Team (SET), led by Deputy Director General Gyaneshwar Singh of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Delhi. Wankhede stated that since Singh was supervising the investigation, it was a violation of the principles of natural justice for Singh to head the SET investigating his own case.
Now, the tribunal, consisting of Chairman Justice Ranjit More and Member (A) Anand Mathur, also concluded Gyaneshwar Singh being actively involved in the investigation could not have been the part of SET.
What is the Rs 25 crore bribery case all about?
For the unversed, Wankhede had arrested Aryan Khan after he conducted a raid at Cordelia Cruise. However, later, Aryan was given a clean chit by NCB's SIT (Special Investigation Team).
Post this, certain allegations were raised against Wankhede regarding the "conduct of the raid/investigation". He was reportedly accused of extortion of money in order to free Aryan. To probe these allegations, an SET was formed within the NCB, which subsequently submitted its report, along with related documents, to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The MHA, in turn, forwarded the preliminary report along with a draft charge sheet proposing major penalties to the disciplinary authority of Wankhede, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
