Anurag Kashyap Opens Up About His Low Phase, Says He Went To Rehab Thrice & Suffered Heart Attack

He had taken over a movie based on the life of Gowri Shankar, also known as Auto Shankar, who was hanged for murdering six people in Madras in the ¡®80s. His name was put into the credits, but the film never saw the light of day. However, it made Ram Gopal Varma notice Kashyap, and that¡¯s how his journey as a writer began. Gradually, he donned a director¡¯s hat too and rest as they say is history.

Opening up about his struggle with depression, the Udaan filmmaker revealed he went through troubling times as his movie Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat was delayed due to Covid and his web-series Tandav faced some issues.
He even quit Twitter after his daughter Aaliyah Kashyap started getting "rape threats", which gave her "anxiety attacks".

"This was the time I went off Twitter because my daughter started getting trolled, getting rape threats and she started getting anxiety attacks. So, I went off Twitter in August 2019 and I went to Portugal. I was shooting this in London and then, when the whole Jamia Millia thing happened, I came back to India. I was like, 'Yeh mujh se bardaaasht nahin ho raha hai, koi kuchh bol nahin raha hai' (I can¡¯t bear it, no one is speaking up). I started speaking (on Twitter) again,¡± Kashyap told The Indian Express.
He said he went to rehab thrice during that time and even suffered a heart attack.

Kashyap said that he is in a much better place now is keeping himself busy with work. "Slowly, I crawled back...made 'Dobaaraa'," he said.
The 50-year-old director underwent an angioplasty last year.
His film Almost Pyaar With DJ Mohabbat which stars Alaya F and Karan Mehta is all set to be released in Jan 2023.
