Anushka Shines As Jhulan Goswami In Chakda Xpress Teaser; Here's The Former Captain's Story!

On Thursday morning, Anushka revealed her first look as the female bowler for her upcoming film 'Chakda Express'. Anushka's film is based on the life of female Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami.

After a break of three years, Anushka's upcoming ¡®Chakda Xpress' is most likely to have an OTT release on Netflix.

Calling the film an eye-opener, Anushka shared her belief of being a part of an incredible story.

She took to her Twitter and Instagram profiles to share Jhulan's story.

¡°It is a really special film because it is essentially a story of tremendous sacrifice. 'Chakda Xpress' is inspired by the life and times of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami and it will be an eye-opener into the world of women¡¯s cricket. At a time when Jhulan decided to become a cricketer and make her country proud on the global stage, it was very tough for women to even think of playing the sport.This film is a dramatic retelling of several instances that shaped her life and also women¡¯s cricket.¡±

"From support systems to facilities, to having a stable income from playing the game, to even having a future in cricket ¨C very little propelled women of India to take up cricket as a profession. Jhulan had a fighting and extremely uncertain cricketing career and she stayed motivated to make her country proud. She strived to change the stereotype that women can¡¯t make a career out of playing cricket in India so that the next generation of girls had a better playing field. Her life is a living testimony that passion and perseverance triumphs over any or all adversities and 'Chakda Xpress' is the most definitive look into the not so rosy world of women¡¯s cricket back then. There is still a lot of work to be done and we have to empower them with the best so that the sport can flourish for women in India.¡±

Who is Jhulan?

Jhulan fought many battles, including unsupportive parents, access infrastructure. She had to make an extra effort and go the extra mile to ensure she had the basic training. Even though she was a bare sport-loving girl in a football-crazy family, she spent childhood playing cricket with friends and cousins.

Her passion for cricket became a career goal, and as a ball girl, she saw Australia vs. New Zealand final in 1997.

In 2002, she made her India debut as a 19-year-old. As a teenager, she traveled alone early in the morning by train to Kolkata and took a bus to reach practice that started at 7.30 am.

Despite resistance from her family, Jhulan fought for her dream. In 2018, she became the first and the only woman to take 200 wickets in the 50-over format and eventually claimed her 300th international wicket. In 18 years, Jhulan has won the ICC Women¡¯s Cricketer award, captained the Indian team, and is also a two-time World Cup finalist: in 2005 and 2017.

The film is produced by Karnesh Sharma and is directed by Prosit Roy.
