¡°I just said no, but there was no malice for them. There was that fear ¡®ki mere sath kya karenge¡¯ (I was afraid what they¡¯ll do to me). I am a straight guy. ¡®With due respect, I can¡¯t come.¡±
Ayushmann Khurrana¡¯s latest film, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, is being lauded by the critics and the fans for at least being a conversation starter about the transgender community¡¯s troubles in gaining acceptance from society.
It also became one of the first few films to change how the trans community has been represented in mainstream Bollywood. The movie evoked conflicted reviews as some praised director Abhishek Kapoor's honest efforts, but some claimed the representation to be surface-level and shallow.
In the movie, the transgender character is played by a cisgender woman, actor Vaani Kapoor.
