'Winner beyond medals': Bollywood roots for Vinesh Phogat after her disqualification from Olympics
After Vinesh Phogat's heartbreaking disqualification from Paris Olympics 2024 for being overweight reportedly by 100 grams, Bollywood stars including Vicky Kaushal, Farhan Akhtra and Samantha Ruth Prabhu among others are rooting for her.
While everyone was waiting with baited breaths and praying for Vinesh Phogat's Olympic win, heartbreaking news struck as the Indian wrestler was disqualified from the 50 kg women's wrestling event at the Paris Olympics 2024 Games as she weighed a few grams over it. Phogat has been reportedly hospitalised in Paris due to dehydration after he worked out the entire night to shed those extra 2 kgs but failed to qualify because of 100 grams. This has led to an outpouring of support from Bollywood stars who rooting for the Indian wrestler to boost her morale.

Taking to Instagram, filmmaker-actor Farhan Akhtar said that he was heartbroken for her but at the same time very proud of her too. "You will always be a champion and an inspiration to millions. Keep your chin up," he said.
Actress Taapsee Pannu wrote, "This is heartbreaking but honestly this woman has already made her mark beyond gold by now." Sonakshi Sinha also emphathised with her and said, "You were, are and always will be a champion." Bhumi Pednekar hailed Vinesh Phogat as a winner and wrote, "Itni jaan aur himmat bahut kam mein hoti hai."
"A winner beyond medals," wrote Vicky Kaushal as he hailed the wrestler. In a heartfelt note, Samantha Ruth Prabhu wrote, "At times, the most resilient individuals encounter the toughest obstacles. Remember that you are not alone, a higher power is watching over you. Your remarkable ability to persist in the midst of difficulties is truly admirable. We will always stand by you through all your highs and lows."
Will her disqualification be overturned?
Vinesh Phogat had entered the Gold Medal bout after beating Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez by 5-0 in the semi-finals on Aug 6. The entire country stands united boosting her morale after her disqualification from Paris Olympics 2024. Not only Bollywood stars even Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In fact, after his prompt intervention, people are hoping for a reversal of the decision. As per a report on NDTV, PM PM Modi has personally spoken to IOA President PT Usha asking her to exhaust all options to support Ms Phogat's case, including filing a strong protest against the disqualification if deemed necessary.
