Praveen Kumar Sobti was also a national-level athlete and a former soldier of the Border Security Force (BSF).
Sobti, who unfortunately passed away on Monday evening following a heart attack, made India proud for more than one reason.
The post is a testament to his legacy, contribution to his country, and much more. He was an athlete who represented India at the Olympics twice.

"Director-General and All Ranks of BSF condole the untimely demise of Sh Praveen Kumar Sobti, former Deputy Commandant, Arjuna Awardee, two-time Olympian (1968 Mexico Games and 1972 Munich Games), and four-time Asian Games medalist (2 gold, one silver, and one bronze)," the Border Security Force wrote.
Sobti's journey and determination:
Praveen Kumar joined the BSF when he was 20. Everyone at BSF became aware and appreciative of his athletic talent.
Sobti got a chance to represent India across various athletic events in hammer and discus throw. He won two gold medals at the Asian Games in 1966 and 1970 and silver medals at the 1966 Commonwealth Games and the 1974 Asian Games. He also competed in the Olympics twice in 1968 and then again in 1972.
On Tuesday, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) expressed "deep shock" at his death.
AFI took to Twitter to condole his death. The post read:

He became a household name with his role of "Bheem" in BR Chopra's epic show "Mahabharat".

Praveen's stint with acting began in 1981 with the movie Raksha. From 1988 to 1990, he played the role of Bheem, which made him a household face in India. Hopping from one journey to another, he later went on to join politics.
He joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2013, and a year later, he joined BJP.
Praveen Kumar Sobti died of a heart attack on 7th February 2022. "He had a chronic chest infection problem. When he started feeling uneasy at night, we called the doctor at home. He passed away between 10-10.30 pm following a cardiac arrest," a family member told PTI.
Praveen is survived by his wife, daughter, two younger brothers, and a sister.
