Case Filed Against Saif Ali Khan In UP Court For 'Justifying' Raavan's Abduction Of Sita
A civil court advocate Himanshu Srivastava from Uttar Pradesh has filed a case against Saif Ali Khan as well as director Om Raut for hurting religious sentiments for saying that Raavan will be humanised in Adipurush.
Saif Ali Khan had earlier apologised for his remark, but seems like the apology wasn't expected.
Now, an advocate from Uttar Pradesh has filed a case against him as well as director Om Raut for hurting religious sentiments.
The petition will heard on Dec 23 in Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) in the Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh, as per IANS.
Himanshu Srivastava, who is a civil court advocate, says he is a believer of Sanatan Dharma, and that Raavan is a symbol of evil while Lord Rama is the symbol of good.
The petitioner said that on December 6, Saif Ali Khan said in a media interview that "since Lakshman had cut off the nose of Raavan's sister Surpnakha, it was justified that Raavan kidnapped Sita".
For the unversed, Saif is playing the role of a character similar to Raavan in the film titled Adipurush, that is being made on Lord Ram. In an earlier interview with Mumbai Mirror, he had said that he will try to humanise the character. This comment landed him in hot soup.
"It¡¯s interesting to play a demon king, less strictures in that. But we will make him humane, up the entertainment quotient, justify his abduction of Sita and the war with Ram as revenge for what was done to his sister Surpanakha by Lakshman, who cut off his nose," he had said.
However, he soon retracted his statement and issued apology.
"I¡¯ve been made aware that one of my statements during an interview, has caused a controversy and hurt people¡¯s sentiments. This was never my intention or meant that way. I would like to sincerely apologise to everybody and withdraw my statement. Lord Ram has always been the symbol of Righteousness & Heroism for me. Adipurush is about celebrating the victory of good over evil and the entire team is working together to present the epic without any distortions."
Several people including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ram Kadam had objected to his remark.
