First Sunday of 2020 turned into a dark one as violence swept the Jawaharlal Nehru University late evening as several masked individuals, both male and female, thrashed students, including girls, and teachers inside the varsity campus with sticks and metal rods.
Two officer-bearers of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU), including President Aishe Ghosh - who was reportedly hit on her head with an iron rod, received severe injuries.
They accused RSS' student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for the rampant violence on the campus.
While many celebrities joined the protests against violence and are making their voice heard, Deepika Padukone for the first time chose to give her two cents.
Deepika was promoting her upcoming film Chhapaak on NDTV, when she remotely mentioned the protests and gave her views on the same. Expressing her views on how India is coming together and making its voice heard, DP said,
¡°It¡¯s nice to see people coming out on the streets. I feel proud that we aren¡¯t scared to express ourselves and the fact that people are voicing their opinion whether on the streets or from their homes. If we want to see any change in our life or our society, it is extremely important to keep all points of view on the table."
This was the first time that Deepika spoke about the ongoing violence and the protests against CAA. Many celebrities including Ranveer, Karan Johar, and other A-listers have been slammed by fans for not expressing or condemning the current situation of the country.
However, there are several Bollywood celebrities including Anurag Kashyap, Anubhav Sinha, Tapsee Pannu, Zoya Akhtar, Diya Mirza, and Rahul Bose, who took part in a protest at Carter Road in Mumbai against the violence at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Monday.
Protesters were seen singing songs and holding placards while demonstrating against the incident.
