After Fabindia Controversy, Javed Akhtar Points Out Urdu Words Used In BJP's Slogan For UP
Soon after Fab India's Diwali advertisement received flak for using Urdu words, Javed Akhtar has pointed how BJP's slogan in Uttar Pradesh has three out of four Urdu words in it.
It wasn't long ago when Fab India's Diwali advertisement was facing flak for using Urdu word for their campaign Jashn-e-Riwaaz. The advertisement read, "As we welcome the festival of love and light, Jashn-e-Riwaaz by Fabindia is a collection that beautifully plays homage to Indian culture."
At that time, BJP MP Tejaswi Surya had called it a "deliberate attempt of abrahamisation of Hindu festivals".

Akhtar who was the chief guest of the 94th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan had recently said, as quoted by TOI, that freedom of expression in the country is shrinking.
"Just like the parliament and the state assemblies are important in a democratic setup, so is the freedom of expression of writers and authors. Unfortunately, the freedom of expression for them is shrinking."
"Unfortunately, that is not happening. The writer¡¯s pen trembles while writing about the plight of common people and their woes. There is some kind of fearfulness that has crept among them. At present, there is darkness, which was never felt before."
Swara Bhasker, while talking to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Mumbai, had also stated that artistes these days face resistance for telling their stories.
"There are many young people who have risked their careers, their livelihoods to keep the resistance alive in their own small ways."
She also introduced a person called Raj whose venue had been vandalised several times for hosting comedians like Aditi Mittal, Munawar Faququi and Agrima Joshua among others.
"We also have Richa Chadha and others here who are from the film industry. We are facing a lot of resistance to telling stories. We are in a situation today where, for a common citizen like me, on one side there is the mob that's completely unaccountable because the ruling dispensation has found a way to use the mob to its liking and the police and state seem to be fine with it.

"On the other side, you have a state that uses arbitrary power and is distributing UAPA and sedition charges as a prasad from a God we don¡¯t want to pray to but are forced to bow down to. This is our reality," she said.
