The celebration among Allu Arjun's fans was palpable as he became the first Telugu actor to secure the prestigious Best Actor award at the 69th National Film Awards.
Yet, amidst the celebrations, an online discourse swiftly emerged, asserting that Vicky Kaushal's portrayal in Sardar Udham was a more fitting contender.
Many fans also highlighted the 'evident' snubbing of Suriya's Jai Bhim in the process.
The discussion began when a Reddit user wrote,
How Vicky Kaushal's Udham Singh lost the NFA for Best Actor to Allu Arjun's Pushpa is beyond me

¡°The biggest snub this year. Vicky killed it as Sardar Uddham Singh. I won't even comment on AA winning, but the least the jury could have done was to have both of them win this. But they apparently have worms for brains.¡±
To this, a Redditor commented, ¡°The jallianwala scene in Sardar udham sends chills down your spine. To award a hyper-masculine role over a freedom fighter's revenge saga is an insult to the art of filmmaking.¡±
Seeing the positive side of the discussion, another comment read: "I'm so happy that people here are at least acknowledging the tremendous work done by Vicky and Shoojit in making this movie."
The same debate was sparked on Twitter, where fans jumped in to claim Vicky was more deserving of the honor than Allu Arjun.
National awards : They conferred best actor male on Allu Arjun for Pushpa and didn't even put Vicky Kaushal in the nominations.

Vicky Kaushal missing the national award is quite upsetting !

I was thinking whether the disappointment would have been bigger if Irrfan Khan was denied it as he was the first choice for this role by Shoojit Sircar... https://t.co/yrcmWZzQcF
Vicky Kaushal should have won the National Award for Sardar Udham and not Allu Arjun for Pushpa

No hate for Allu Arjun but honestly speaking his performance was not National Award winning .#NationalFilmAwards2023 #AliaBhatt #KritiSanon #GangubaiKathiawadi #Mimi
vicky kaushal was 100% robbed at the national film awards and this is coming from a telugu person going against pushpa

Allu winning national award for pushpa over vicky (SU) will always remind me of when sooraj pancholi (hero) won filmfare over vicky kaushal (masaan) https://t.co/bNO2dJtnUb

Vicky kaushal robbed off a national award for sardar uddham

After this year national Film awards too has lost its credibility. How could they give it to allu arjun for pushpa when Vicky kaushal gave such a brilliant performance in sardar udham. He lost filmfare debut to Suraj Pancholi too. I feel bad for him.

Vicky Kaushal was clearly robbed for this, National film awards, the little integrity you had I fear is no more ?

Forget Vicky Kaushal. I¡¯m still stuck at 2005 and how Rani Mukerji did not win the national award for black pic.twitter.com/ZnSJWEhiKd

In the period drama directed by Shoojit Sircar and co-written by him and Ritesh Shah, Vicky Kaushal played the titular role of Sardar Udham Singh. Banita Sandhu and Amol Parashar also played supporting roles.
Rather than pursuing a traditional theatrical release, the film took a direct path to the audience, premiering on Prime Video India in 2021.
Actor Nani wrote ¡°Jai Bhim (broken heart emoji)¡± after Suriya's courtroom drama was snubbed at the National Film Awards this year.
Many agreed with Nani's point of view and wrote: A comment read: ¡°It¡¯s a shame #JaiBhim went unnoticed at the National Film awards. Definitely deserved at least one award.¡±
Another one wrote: ¡°Jai Bhim these movies didn't include in National Film award. Do you know why because no one dares to show the truth of our Casteist society.¡±
R Madhavan's bilingual creation, "Rocketry: The Nambi Effect," secured the accolade for Best Feature Film, while "Kadaisi Vivasayi" emerged victorious as the Best Tamil Film award recipient.
