Ganesh Acharya: Bollywood Choreographer Granted Bail By Mumbai Court In Sexual Harassment Case
Bollywood choreographer Ganesh Acharya granted bail in sexual assault case.
Bollywood choreographer Ganesh Acharya, who was accused of sexual harassment by a co-dancer, has been granted bail by a local court in Mumbai on Thursday, June 23, 2022.
According to reports, choreographer Ganesh Acharya had been charged with sexual harassment, stalking and voyeurism after one of his co-dancers alleged that he along with two others had beaten up her during a Indian Film and Television Choreographers Association (FTCA) function on January 26, 2020 in Mumbai's Andheri.
The case was registered at the suburban Amboli police station in February 2020. Reports suggest that the alleged victim had mentioned Ganesh Acharya exploited her for not fulfilling his sexual demands. She also said that the popular Indian choreographer forced her to watch pornographic films whenever she paid him a visit at his office in 2009-10. The woman further alleged that Ganesh Acharya had victimised many other women as well.
Charges Against Ganesh Acharya
Reportedly, the charge sheet filed in the court of the metropolitan magistrate had the 51-year-old dance master booked under IPC (Indian Penal Code) sections 354-a (sexual harassment), 323 (causing hurt), 354-c (voyeurism ), 354-d (stalking), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (insulting the modesty of any woman) and 34 (common intention to commit an offence).
Ganesh Acharya Said All Accusations Were 'False And Baseless'
Ganesh Acharya, who is known for his work in blockbusters movies such as Salman Khan's Bodyguard and Ajay Devgn's Singham, has denied the charges against him in the past and has even refused to comment on the development. The Bollywood choreographer described the accusations as ¡°false and baseless¡±.
When Ganesh Acharya Started His Bollywood Career
Ganesh Acharya, began his career in the early 1990s when he started assisting choreographer Kamalji. He made his debut as a full-fledged choreographer in Bollywood with his first film Anaam in 1992.
However, the dancer gained recognition and widespread fame for his work the 2001 movie Lajja, in which he choreographed the song Badi Mushkil featuring Madhuri Dixit and Manisha Koirala.
He became a director with the 2007 film Swami and went on to direct the movies - Money Hai Toh Honey Hai (2008) Angel (2011) and Bhikari (2017). Ganesh Acharya choreographed the widely popular song Chikni Chameli featuring actress Katrina Kaif in the 2012 flick Agneepath, which had Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt pitted against each other.
