'Have Mental Health Disorders In My Family', Ira Khan Says Her Depression Is Partially Genetic
Aamir Khan's daughter Ira Khan has revealed that mental disorders run in the family and her depression after her parent's divorce was partially genetic.
It takes a lot of guts to talk about one's mental health. Aamir Khan's daughter Ira Khan has often spoken about her struggle with depression. In a recent interview, she revealed she slipped into depression after her parent's divorce.

Ira is the daughter of Aamir and his wife Reena Dutta. She said she wasn't too affected with her parent's divorce but she felt sad for a year and a half. She would cry for eight hours and sleep for 10. She didn't get to know when she walked into depression until her mother recognized her symptoms.
"My mom pointed out that I didn¡¯t want to be alive so I would just sleep my day away so that I would have fewer hours to live in a day."

She revealed she has cyclic depression, and she is currently on medication. "Every 8-10 months I will have a big crash. It¡¯s partly genetic, partly psychological, and partly social. It took me a while to figure it out. But I have mental health disorders in my family.
"I also did not make healthy choices and I systematically walked into depression. I had a very big dip in July last year. I had stopped taking my medication and also put on a lot of weight. I developed a mental block against working out," she said.

They got married in 1986. Due to their inter-faith marriage, It is said that it was Aamir who fell in love with Reena first. He kept persuading her until he succeeded. He even wrote her a love letter with his blood. The couple got divorced peacefully in 2002. While they have remained tight-lipped about the seperation, rumous suggest that Aamir's link-up with actresses was the reason for the same.

Talking about his first wife, Aamir had once said, "No. Reena and I were married for 16 years. We grew up together as we both were very young when we got married. Our separation was tough on both of us. It was a special relationship and is still very close to my heart. I was alone for three to four years and then I met Kiran. I didn¡¯t even work for almost two years as I was coping with it. I am very emotional. When we decided to part ways, Reena and I first explained the situation to our kids. My children, Junaid and Ira, are close to Kiran and Azad."
The ex-couple continues to be in a healthy relationship with each other.
