Joaquin Phoenix had earlier addressed speculations surrounding Joker 2. He had told Playlist, "This is an interesting guy, there are some things we could do with this guy and could [explore] further. "But as to whether we actually will? I don't know."
Did you know actor Joaquin Phoenix maintained a journal to get into the character of Arthur Fleck for the much-anticipated supervillain film Joker?
Joker follows the life of Arthur Fleck (essayed by Phoenix) as an aspiring stand-up comedian and his transition into becoming the Joker. Fleck will be seen as a man struggling to find his way in Gotham's fractured society.
As per the research, Fleck records his day-to-day activity in a journal. In sync with the spirit, Phoenix too decided to maintain a journal chronicling his experiences as Fleck.
As he shot for the movie, he made several entries to the journal. "I was writing in Arthur's journal when Todd sent me a note about the set of steps in the story. That inspired me to write 'step after step after step', over and over and line by line across the pages, and then it became something we'd text to each other," Phoenix said.
Did you know there was an alternative ending planned for the original Joker? Filmmaker Kevin Smith had revealed the same. In the climax of the official version, Arthur Fleck aka Joker (Phoenix) follows Thomas and Martha Wayne and kills them, leaving young Bruce Wayne (who then goes to become Batman). In the alternate ending, Joker kills Bruce as well.
"Originally, the ending in the hospital was different. He¡¯s in the hospital and he laughs chuckles, and he says, ¡®I was just thinkin¡¯ of something funny¡¯. What was supposed to happen was you flashed back to the death of Thomas and Martha Wayne, and it was him (Joker) killing Thomas and Martha Wayne and the boy was screaming and crying and he turned to walk away and he turned back, shrugged, and shot the kid," he said.
