Kabir Khan Explored Over 100 Stories On Indian Cricket Team To Finalize The Script Of '83'
Kabir Khan in an interview divulged into some interesting details about making 83, a film that could easily be touted as one of the biggest releases of his career.
Contrary to reports of 83 being targeted for a direct release on a streaming service, Reliance Entertainment Group CEO had rubbished the reports and said that the makers wouldn't even be thinking of that option for another six months at least.

¡°There is no truth in this. As producers and even the director, we all are on the same page that we want to wait for theatrical release for the next few months. We will first complete the film then we will wait. If six or nine months down the line the situation becomes much worse we will take a call at that time. There is no hurry."
While the COVID-19 lockdown has pushed the release indefinitely, Kabir Khan in an interview divulged into some interesting details about making 83, a film that could easily be touted as one of the biggest releases of his career.

There is a pressure of accuracy and added tension around the release but Kabir Khan is not at all bogged down by any of it. In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Kabir Khan recollected the amount of effort that the pre-production of the film demanded.

He added that it took him over a year to write the film, which will be told from multiple perspectives.
He was quoted in the report as saying:

¡°I had 100 fantastic stories and I could pick only 25 from the mountain of material I had with me. That¡¯s the reason it took me close to a year-and-a-half to finalize the script. The film is not just from the players¡¯ point of view, but also that from the commentators and the spectators. There are several layers.¡±
He picked up one anecdote and revealed how Krishnamachari Srikkanth, who had tied the knot just three months before the World Cup had to cancel his holiday.

It was after the team was sure that they would never be able to make it past the group stage of the tournament that he¡¯d booked tickets for a US holiday, along with six other players. Recollecting the incident, Kabir added,

¡°Srikkanth, along with six other players, was all set to fly out as soon as the group stage ended, confident that India would be knocked out of contention soon. All seven had booked their tickets from Mumbai to New York via London. In Srikkanth¡¯s words, ¡®We will play the World Cup on the way to a holiday in the US.¡¯ Nobody, including the team, believed that we had a chance of making it to the semis, let alone the finals and lift the trophy.¡±
Based on team India¡¯s iconic and underdog victory at the 1983 cricket World Cup, the film boasts of a stellar cast including Ranveer Singh as captain Kapil Dev, Deepika Padukone, Harrdy Sandhu, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jivaa, Saqib Saleem, Pankaj Tripathi, among others.
