Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, the film promises to be a portrayal of historical events. It is based on true events of Emergency, a 21-month period from June 25, 1975, to March 21, 1977, when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency across the country. This period is one of the most controversial and turbulent times in India's post-independence history.
Not a biopic, says Kangana
Earlier, Kangana had clarified the film is not a biopic but a political drama. "It is not the biopic of Indira Gandhi. It is a grand period film. To be precise, it is a political drama that will help my generation to understand the socio-political landscape of current India."
Kangana has produced, directed, written and acted in the film
For the unversed, Kangana has directed the film herself. Earlier, Sai Kabir, who worked with Ranaut for her 2014 movie Revolver Rani, was supposed to helm the project. However, later the Dhaakad actress said that she would direct the film herself as she believed that no one could tackle the project better than her.
