Madhavan says the upcoming biopic Rocketry 每 The Nambi Effect has a lot riding on it, especially because he hasn't had a major theatrical release since 2017's Vikram Vedha and hasn't made money in the last four years.
It's an exciting phase for Bollywood actor R Madhavan. His first movie as a director is all set for its theatrical release. Wearing a director's hat has come with its challenges for Madhavan.
Madhavan says the upcoming biopic Rocketry 每 The Nambi Effect has a lot riding on it, especially because he hasn't had a major theatrical release since 2017's Vikram Vedha and hasn't made money in the last four years.
He had to make tough choices. When he didn't have any films in his kitty apart from Rocketry, he said yes to the Netflix show 'Decoupled,' which received mixed reviews.
During an interview on the sidelines of the ongoing Cannes Film Festival, Madhavan spoke about 'Rocketry' and the constant fear that comes with it.
In a conversation with Anupama Chopra, Madhavan said,
"I have a son. There was COVID. I didn*t make any money during COVID. I didn*t make any money for two years before COVID because I was doing this film. The things that kept me alive were the one-off chances I took on OTT to keep the fires burning, but apart from that, I haven*t done any films. My last film was Vikram Vedha, so there*s fear. There*s a constant fear."
Talking about his wife Sarita, he expressed gratitude for her "outstanding support."She told him that he was happy despite being exhausted.
Madhavan added, "I said I*ll trade all the money in the world for that."
In Rocketry, Madhavan's directorial debut, he will also star as Doctor Nambi Narayanan, a space scientist involved in a spy scandal. In an earlier interview with Variety, Madhavan joked that he had never made a movie before Rocketry, not even on his iPhone.
Apart from Madhavan, the movie also stars Simran, Rajit Kapur, Ravi Raghavendra, Misha Ghoshal, Gulshan Grover, Karthik Kumar, and Dinesh Prabhakar, with Shah Rukh Khan and Suriya.
The movie has premiered at the Cannes Film Market and is set for a theatrical release in July.
