¡®Look At Ads For Kundali Dikhao¡¯: Ratna Pathak Shah Says Society Is Becoming Extremely Conservative
Ratna pointed out how she is still asked whether she fasts for her husband on 'Karva Chauth.'
Ratna Pathak Shah is not just a brilliant actor; her fearless opinions prove she's a hard-core feminist. She has never minced her words and shared her unapologetic thoughts on society and the world around her.
She has called out the Indian film fraternity many times for its 'mediocre content' and expressed her views on 'item songs.'
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Ratna Pathak Shah shared how Indian society is heading towards a scary space of being 'extremely conservative'.
Ratna pointed out how she is still asked if she does 'Karva Chauth'. Ratna said,
"Our society is becoming extremely conservative. I feel that very strongly. We are becoming superstitious. We are being forced into accepting and making religion a very important part of one¡¯s life. Suddenly, everyone¡¯s talking about, ¡®Karva Chauth ka vrat nai kar rahe hai aap?¡¯. Till today no one has asked me this, last year was the first time someone asked me about it. I said, ¡®Pagal hun main?¡¯ Isn¡¯t it appalling that modern educated women do Karva Chauth, praying for the lives of husbands so that they can have some validity in life,"
Talking about the 'Kundali matching' ads in newspapers, she pointed out:
"So we are going conservative. Look at the number of ads for kundali dikhao, vaastu karao, apna astrologer ko dikhao. Look at the funny ones, like Nithyananda, who has an island somewhere. Every silly, old Guru from under every rock has jumped out, and everyone¡¯s flocking to them. Is this the sign of modern society, where a rationalist like Dabholkar gets killed in broad daylight, and nothing can be done about it? His trial is still going on, and nothing will be done about it."
Shah elaborates that the day is not far when India turns into Saudi Arabia. She added,
"We are moving towards an extremely conservative society. The first thing a conservative society does is clamp down on its women. Look at all the conservative societies in this world. Women are the ones who are most affected. What's the scope of women in Saudi Arabia? Do we want to become like Saudi Arabia? And we will become because it's very very convenient. Women provide a lot of unpaid labor within the home. If you have to pay for that labor, who will do it? Women are forced into that situation."
Shah will next be seen in 'Dhak Dhak' alongside actors Fatima Sana Shaikh, Dia Mirza, and Sanjana Sanghi.
The road trip film is backed by Viacom18 Studios and Taapsee Pannu¡¯s Outsiders Films. It is helmed by Tarun Dudeja from a script co-written by Dudeja and Parijat Joshi.
