After Kangana Ranaut said that women should show courage by not wearing burqa in Afghanistan, Shabana Azmi hits back at her over Karnataka Hijab row.
Adding to the bandwagon of celebrities like Hema Malini, Javed Akhtar and Neeraj Ghaywan among others who expressed their opinion on the Karnataka Hijab row, Kangana Ranaut who is banned from Twitter took to Instagram to share her views.
In the midst of the debate intensifying on whether Muslim girls should be allowed to wear Hijab to schools and colleges, Kangana Ranaut said, "If you want to show courage, show it by not wearing burqua in Afghanistan... Learn to break free not cage yourself".
She wrote this along with a screenshot of author Anand Ranganathan's tweet, which reads, "Iran. 1972 and now. From Bikini to Burqa in fifty years flat. Those who do not learn from History are doomed to repeat it."
Shabana Azmi soon called out Kangana Ranaut's comment on Hijab row by writing on Twitter, "Correct me if Im wrong but Afghanistan is a theocratic state and when I last checked India was a secular democratic republic ?!!"

Yesterday, Javed Akhtar said that he has never been in favour of burqa or hijab, but he slams the hooligans who attacked girls "that too unsuccessfully".
I have never been in favour of Hijab or Burqa. I still stand by that but at the same time I have nothing but deep contempt for these mobs of hooligans who are trying to intimidate a small group of girls and that too unsuccessfully. Is this their idea of ¡°MANLINESS¡± . What a pity
