Did You Know Shah Rukh Khan Was to Play Tom Hanks' Role In Kundan Shah's Forrest Gump Remake?

Amid the boycott trend, Aamir Khan's Hindi remake of Tom Hank's Forrest Gump 'Laal Singh Chaddha' is finally out in theatres. It might have marked Aamir Khan's lowest opening at the box office, but has managed to get an upper hand over Raksha Bandhan, which stars Akshay Kumar.

The film, which was announced years back, released after much delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Moreover, Aamir Khan had previously mentioned in media interviews that it was difficult for the team to acquire the remake rights of Hollywood's 1994 film Forrest Gump.

Aamir Khan's latest film Laal Singh Chaddha is an official remake of Tom Hanks' Oscar-winning flick, that has already achieved cult status. But Aamir Khan's not the only one to seek the remake rights of the popular Hollywood film.

According to reports, many from Bollywood has been planning to remake Forrest Gump for decades.

For those unversed, a remake of the film Forrest Gump was earlier announced and it was supposed to be helmed by Kabhi Ha Kabhi Na director Kundan Shah.

It was Shah Rukh Khan, who was approached for reprising Tom Hanks' role in the remake of forrest Gump at the time. Moreover, reports suggest that getting the remake rights was a task altogether in the ¡¯90s. Makers had to make significant changes to the script in order to remake the film.

Anil Kapoor was supposed to play Tom Hanks¡¯ role, however, due to some creative differences, the actor dropped out and SRK was roped in by the Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron director, according to a report published by News18.

As per reports, Kundan Shah back then had said that Anil Kapoor walked out of the project after realizing the dedication required to make such a film. Apparently, the lack of diplomacy didn¡¯t go well with Anil Kapoor and he left. Kundan Shah then roped in Shah Rukh Khan and wanted to finish the film fast. However, due to production problems the film got shelved forever.
