What could be the better day to remind ourselves about the secular fabric of India. It was on this day in 1950 that India was declared a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic.
Giving us all the same message, Shah Rukh Khan recently spoke on how being Indian is more important than anything else. When he appeared on the reality TV show Dance Plus, he opened his heart and shared his views on religion. The video which is now going viral has won the hearts of the audiences.
¡°We never spoke about being Hindu-Muslim. My wife is Hindu, I am Muslim, my children are Hindustan,¡± he said.
The King Khan of Bollywood narrated an incident when his daughter Suhana had to fill a form in school. She asked him which religion they belonged to as she had to write that down in the form.
To this, Shah Rukh Khan told her, ¡°we are all Indians, we do not have a religion¡±.
"There is no such thing as Hindu-Muslim between is. My wife is Hindi and I am Muslim, my kids are Indian. When they went to school, we had to fill in the religion section. My daughter asked me ¡®what is our religion?¡¯ and I wrote that we are Indian, we have no other religion and that shouldn¡¯t happen either),¡± he said.

Shah Rukh Khan had earlier said that religion has never been imposed inside his house.
¡°I gave my son and daughter names that could pass for generic (pan-India and pan-religious) ones - Aryan and Suhana. The Khan has been bequeathed by me so they can¡¯t really escape it," he had told IANS.
In fact, he and his family celebrates all festivals with equal enthusiasm. He is often trolled for this too. For instance, when he sported a tilak and was seen worshiping Lord Ganesha, he was called a ¡°fake muslim¡±. But nothing pulls him down.
About his own religion, he had earlier said, ¡°I¡¯m not religious in terms of reading namaz [prayer] five times but I am Islamic. I believe in the tenets of Islam and I believe that it¡¯s a good religion and a good discipline."
SRK is married to Gauri, a Hindu, and has three children - Aryan, Suhana and AbRam.
