'She Had Defects', Producer Suneel Darshan Recalls His First Meeting With Priyanka Chopra
Producer Suneel Darshan spilt the beans on when he first met Priyanka Chopra
At a time when people get trolled for body-shaming, Bollywood producer Suneel Darshan in his latest interview has opened up about being taken aback by the looks of now global icon Priyanka Chopra.
During an interaction with Siddharth Kanan, Suneel Darshan spoke of when he first met PeeCee and how he felt like she needed some correction on her body.
Speaking of the time when he first met Priyanka Chopra after having worked with only fair-complexioned heroines, producer Suneel Darshan said, "I had worked with Kareena Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Meenakshi, they were actresses.. very beautiful girls. I said ¡®Oh my this is really different¡¯. I made her sit down and tried to talk to her. In 15 minutes, I was assured of only two things, either I was gonna make a huge success of this girl, or this was going to be a big disaster."
The popular filmmaker also spilled the beans on time when beauty queen-turned-actress Priyanka Chopra was offered Akshay Kumar-Kareena Kapoor's film 'Aitraaz'. Speaking of Nick Jonas' wife PeeCee, Suneel Darshan said, ¡°PC for me was those eyes.. she had this dark complexion, there were a few defects that she needed to correct at that point of time."
"But she had the hunger and she had this mellifluous voice of hers. My god, it was gorgeous," he added. The filmmaker also went on to reveal that his entire unit differed from his decision of casting PeeCee and suggested former Miss Universe Lara Dutta's name.
"My entire unit, my entire team, Raj Kanwar, Akshay and whoever was there would say ¡®Oh Lara Dutta, Lara Dutta¡¯. I said Lara Dutta is good but the dark horse, the Rekha is coming. And that is Priyanka Chopra," the producer said and added that Priyanka Chopra was upset about playing a negative character.
He said, ¡°PC, she said she was approached for a vamp¡¯s role and she was so upset, she cried, she went home and she went to sleep. I said after you wake up come back to the office. She was here and I pressed on her the importance of her doing the role. I thought I drilled it into her head and yes it was wonderful for them to be in Aitraaz,¡± Suneel Darshan was quoted as saying by Koimoi.com.
However, it was Priyanka Chopra, who finally grabbed the vamp's role in the 2004 film. Meanwhile, on the work front, Priyanka Chopra is all set to make a comeback in Bollywood with Farhan Akhtar's directorial 'Jee Le Zaara' which will also have Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles.
For the first time ever, Priyanka Chopra will be sharing screen space with the two most popular actresses in Bollywood.
