Sonu Nigam Calls Out 'Music Mafias' Of Bollywood, Says People In Power Manipulate The Business
Nigam has sung over 2000 songs in about 10 different languages. Sonu was at the very peak of his career and was an established and one of the top paid male playback singers in Bollywood when he announced in 2006 that he wants to focus more on personal projects and stage performances.
Sushant Singh Rajput's untimely demise has broken many hearts. His death has caused turbulence in the film industry in a way that everyone is questioning the work culture. Fans are pointing out how Sushant was snubbed by his own fraternity and to dig deeper, even Mumbai Police is investigating the case.
Amid the outgoing outburst and outrage on social media after Sushant's death, playback singer Sonu Nigam took to his social media account to give everyone a reality check on the music industry.
Shedding the light on 'music mafia', Sonu alleged that there are people in power who are ruthlessly destroying the careers of young and aspiring singers, lyricists, and composers in Bollywood.
In the video, Nigam calls out music labels for being nepotistic and biased. He alleged that music companies are now signing only playback artists and composers who are associated with them. He pointed out that lyrics writers are paid peanuts for their work.
In his almost eight-minute-long video, Sonu didn't mince his words and tried to explain how the music industry works. He has also urged music labels and people to be more compassionate and forgiving.
Here's what Sonu said in the video:
"Through this Vlog, I have a request for our music companies. Recently, actor Sushant Singh Rajput died. Tomorrow you could hear about a singer, or a music composer or a writer. The mafia that exists in the music industry is bigger than that in films, unfortunately.
I can understand that it is important for people to do business and everybody wants to rule it.
I was lucky that I came here at a younger age and could avoid the trap. But the younger kids who have just arrived in the industry, it is very tough for them.
I talk to many young girls and boys who keep telling me this and that. They are troubled. (What happens is that the) The producer, director, and the music composer, all are ready to work but then the music company says, 'this isn't our artist'.
I can understand that you guys control the music on the radio, films, etc. But please don't do this. This isn't right. The power lies with two people of the music industry, owning two companies.
I got away from this. I am very happy in my own world. But I have seen the frustration in the eyes of new singers, composers and lyrics writers. If they die, you will also be questioned. Please be kind to newcomers. Be easy on them.
I have been working in the music industry since 89 if you can do this to me, what will you be doing with those younger kids.
Please be a little easy on them. God bless you all and live like a happy fraternity,"
