¡°There Was A Lot Of Favouritism¡±, Taapsee Pannu Recalls Her Unpleasant Experience At Miss India

Actress Taapsee Pannu is all set to return with the sequel of her superhit film Haseen Dillruba. As she stands tall and wealthy in showbiz, it¡¯s trivia that she didn¡¯t start professionally as an actor. Before making her debut with 2010¡¯s Telugu film Jhummandi Naadam, Taapsee also tried her hands at modelling.

One of her popular stints during her initial days was Miss India Pagent where she made it to the top 28 but that too with unpleasant experiences.

Taapsee in an interview with Lallantop revealed that she was only one of three girls who was chosen from Delhi and was set to compete against professional models. Back then, Pannu was an amateur with no experience in doing TV ads or walking ramps but just a few photoshoots.

She revealed, "I realised during the ¡®grooming period¡¯ that this wasn¡¯t something I could do. They¡¯d make us walk, they taught us how to smile. [Designer] Hemant Trivedi used to be the expert teacher at the time, and he humiliated me. He said, ¡®If it was in my hand, you would have never been in the top 28.'¡±

Taapsee soon realised that she was 'walking on thin ice'. The actress quoted, "There was a lot of favouritism happening there. They were making people sign contracts that strictly stipulated that contestants would have to give 30 per cent of all their earnings for three years to the pageant.¡±

¡°When it was over, we went for an afterparty, the national director was there, and he wished me good luck for the future very courteously. I don¡¯t know what took over me, but I told him, ¡®Sir, take it from me in writing, you¡¯re not getting the crown back¡¯,¡± Taapsee expressed.

Interestingly at the pageant, Taapsee won two titles: Miss Fresh Face and Miss Beautiful Skin.

In Bollywood, Taapsee made her debut with 2013¡¯s Chashme Baddoor. She then went on to work in multiple languages until her 2016 blockbuster Pink which turned Taapsee into a mainstream Hindi lingual film. Although she still picks a few Tamil projects in long hiatus and has an interesting lineup in her kitty.

Taapsee will soon be seen romancing Shah Rukh Khan in Rajkumar Hirani¡¯s Dunki. She also has films like Wo Ladki Hai Kahan, Jana Gana Mana and Alien in her hand. A rebel who says her heart out loud, Taapsee also stunned audiences with her hard-hitting acting in short films Nitishastra and Baarish Aur Chowmein.
