Pankaj Tripathi's journey to stardom is almost like a script of a Bollywood movie. The actor came to Mumbai to follow his dreams. While his wife took care of all the expenses, he would roam around the streets of Andheri to look for acting jobs. For a few years, he didn't earn. His wife supported him and the family emotionally as well as financially.

Tripathi in an interview revealed that he was sleeping when the makers approached him for his first movie. He joked that after this he didn't get a film even when he was running around for it.
He said that they were looking for an actor as the one who they had finalised had run away just an hour before the shoot in Delhi.
"Someone told them, ¡®there¡¯s an actor sleeping over there, he has a decent comic timing.¡¯ Main soya hua tha (I was sleeping). They came to me and woke me up. I asked them, ¡®Who are you?¡¯ They said, ¡®Film dene aaye hain (We have come here to offer you a movie).¡¯ I was like, ¡®Ye kaisa aadmi hai?¡¯ So, I got my first film while I was sleeping. And after that I wouldn¡¯t get movies even after running (laughs)", he told CNN News 18.
