'Decided That I Would End My Life', Vicky Kaushal's Father Sham Kaushal On Cancer Diagnosis
Vicky Kaushal's father Sham Kaushal talks about stomach cancer diagnosis and how he battled suicidal thoughts. He wanted to jum off a building.
Not many people know that Vicky Kaushal's father Sham Kaushal is an integral part of the film industry. As a stunt director, he has worked on various projects including some iconic movies like Dangal, Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat and Krrish 3 among others. While his father had worked in the industry, Vicky Kaushal still didn't get a big break. He assisted Anurag Kashyap on Gangs Of Wasseypur. His debut film was the independent drama Masaan (2015).
Sham Kaushal's cancer diagnosis
His father recently talked about the most difficult time of his life - when he was diagnosed with stomach cancer in September 2003. This was way before Vicky Kaushal made his debut. At that time, Sham Kaushal thought he wouldn't survive and even decided to jump off a building.
Sham Kaushal battled suicidal thoughts
Vicky Kaushal's father told ETimes, "I thought there¡¯s no chance of me surviving. I had even decided that I would end my life by jumping off the third floor because I couldn¡¯t live like that. But I could not get off the bed because my stomach had been operated on. I told God, 'Please end this. I don¡¯t have any regrets. I came from a small village and by your grace, I lived a good life. If you want to save me, don¡¯t make me weak.' After that, I was at peace."
Sham Kaushal was hospitalised for 50 days. It has been 19 years and he remains to be cancer free. He keeps getting tested yearly.

Born in Mirzapur, Punjab, Sham Kaushal was working as a sales representative when he met a stunt director who worked in big Bollywood movie. That's what paved his way into the industry. For seven years, he worked as stunt director before he landed the job of an action director in 1990. The journey continues with all the big directors in the industry swear by his professionalism.
