'It Happened To Me': Vidhu V Chopra Reveals 12th Fail Is Inspired From His Personal Experiences

Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra's recently released film 12th Fail has passed with flying colours. The movie stars Vikrant Massey in the lead role and has earned massive appreciation from audiences and critics alike. In a recent interview with Sidharth Kannan, Vidhu revealed how some of his life experiences inspired his latest release.

How did Vidhu Vinod Chopra¡¯s life experiences inspire 12th Fail?

Vidhu shared, "Jaisa wo saaman chori hona, wo pehla pura idea...wo jo shehar ka shot hai. jab pehle wo shehar me aata hai or itna shor. jab pehli baar main Bombay sheher me aaya tha..to mujhe anxiety neurosis ho gya tha...bcoz itne log itni bheed...qk kashmir se hu...itni gubad hogi aisa Maine dekha nahi that. It all happened to me.¡±

(When his luggage gets stolen, that whole idea. The shot is when he comes to Mumbai for the first time. When I first came here, I had anxiety neurosis because I had never seen so much rush and traffic...because I'm from Kashmir...so I had never seen all this.)

Further, Vidhu shared that the father-son scene from 12th Fail was also directly inspired by his interaction with his father.

For the unversed, 12th Fail is based on a novel by Anurag Pathak by the same name. Other than Vikrant, the movie also stars Medha Shankar, Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar and Priyanshu Chatterjee in pivotal roles. Unexpectedly, within two weeks of its release, 12th Fail has grossed over Rs. 27.11 crores.

Originally, 12th Fail follows the real-life story of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma.

Vikrant recently took to Instagram to thank Sharma and wrote, "Sir, You are my hero. You are my idol. It was my fortune to have the opportunity to portray the character of a simple and noble person like you on the silver screen. I will always be indebted to you for existing and being a role model not just for me, but for millions in this country: And giving me my own #Restart moment in real life. I love you. And always will."

Reasoning why, Vidhu shared in the same interview with Sidharth, ¡°Because he endured me and finished the film, it cost me a lot because I gifted him a 4-4.5 crore Rolls Royce. Because he endured me and did an amazing job.¡±
