¡®We¡¯re Trying To Find Our Identity¡¯: BTS Announces Indefinite Break To Focus On Solo Careers
K-Pop band BTS has announced that it's taking an indefinite break to focus on individual careers.
K-Pop boy band BTS has announced they are taking a hiatus to focus on their individual careers. The big news was announced by the K-Pop group and on Tuesday, June 14, during their annual FESTA dinner, a part of their celebration that marks their 9th anniversary as a group.
Members of BTS - RM, Jimin, Jungkook, V, J-Hope, Jin and Suga shared with their fans that a long break would help them discover their identity and give them time to work on solo projects apart from getting some rest.
Elaborating on why they have decided to go solo, band leader RM aka Namjoon who claims to be the only English-speaking member of the group, said that the whole K-Pop Idol thing is a constant work, which fails to give artistes the time needed to focus on their own careers as solo performers, which is what the group members now intend to do with their long break.
We¡¯re going through a rough patch right now, says Jimin
¡°We¡¯ve lost our direction and I just want to take some time to think and then return, but that just feels rude to our fans and like I¡¯m letting [them] down,¡± he said. ¡°I think now, finally, we¡¯ve come to think about what kind of artists we each want to be remembered as [by] our fans. I think that¡¯s why we¡¯re going through a rough patch right now. We¡¯re trying to find our identity and that¡¯s an exhausting and long process,¡± said 26-year-old member Jimin.
Moreover, this isn't the first time BTS announcing a hiatus, as the group had done the same in 2019 and again in late December 2021. However, those were shorter vacations, according to reports.
Despite announcing their last break, the K-Pop boy band launched their anthology album Proof earlier this month. During the interaction, the group members clarified that they require more than a short vacay to get through their creative struggles at the moment.
Meanwhile, V said, ¡°We could focus on our solo work this time and later when we gather again as a group that synergy will be like no other,¡± V said. ¡°We¡¯ll be better than before.¡±
