In an unfortunate turn of events, Alok Chatterjee, 64, passed away on Monday, January 7. He was a batchmate of the late actor Irrfan Khan, who attended the National School of Drama from 1984 to 1987. Alok, a seasoned theater performer, reportedly had several organ problems and had been ill for a long time.
Who was Alok Chatterjee?
Alok Chatterjee, who was born in Madhya Pradesh, was awarded a scholarship in 1987 to attend the National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi.
In addition, he received a gold medal from NSD and served as the director of the Madhya Pradesh School of Drama, or MPSD. Alok also taught acting at Mumbai's Actor Prepress, Anupam Kher's college. according to FirstPost.
Alok directed the plays Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare. He performed in Miller's play as well.
Alok was also honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award by President Droupadi Murmu.

Sharing his photo, he wrote, "Aalok Chatterjee... A rare actor has passed away! He was a batchmate of Irrfan at NSD. If Irrfan was Kalidas, then Aalok Chatterjee was its antonym! The antonym has gone to meet his Kalidas! Rest in peace, Aalok Bhai!"
