'Didn't look like my mother or sister': Khushi Kapoor opens up on being mocked for her looks & how it affected her
Khushi Kapoor has been in the spotlight, from promoting Loveyapa to Netflix announcing her next film with Ibrahim Ali Khan. Amid constant scrutiny, she opened up about childhood struggles, revealing how hurtful comparisons to her mother and sister impacted her.
Khushi Kapoor has been making headlines lately, from promoting Loveyapa, set to release on February 7, to Netflix announcing her next film alongside debutant Ibrahim Ali Khan. However, much of the chatter surrounding her hasn't been positive. From criticism of her off-screen chemistry with Junaid Khan to questions about why she was cast opposite Ibrahim, she's faced constant scrutiny. Now, in a candid chat with Indian Express at SCREEN Live, Khushi opened up about the struggles she faced growing up¡ªrevealing how she was mocked for her looks as she didn't resemble her mother or sister, and how deeply it affected her.
'Self-esteem takes a hit when you are a young child'
Even before Khushi Kapoor stepped into the limelight, comparisons with her mother, the legendary Sridevi, and her elder sister, Janhvi Kapoor, had been relentless.
Whether it was her resemblance¡ªor lack thereof¡ªto them, or the scrutiny of her appearance, Khushi has faced intense public judgment.
Now, as she gears up for her second film Loveyapa, she has opened up about the pressures of beauty standards and the criticism she has endured.
Reflecting on the unrealistic expectations placed on her, Khushi shared with Indian Express, "It's a vicious cycle. When I was a young girl, I was made fun of how I looked. I didn't look like my mother or sister. Your self-esteem takes a hit when you are a young child."
She revealed that this led her to develop a strong interest in beauty and self-care, as she became increasingly aware of the way people commented on her appearance.
Acknowledging the speculation around cosmetic enhancements, Khushi stated, "I don't think that it is a bad thing, especially when I know these are the things people are pointing out. I am not saying that it is something that people should or shouldn't do. I haven't done the hundred things that people have said that I have done, but it is a part of taking care of yourself sometimes. Skincare, fillers, I don't think these are things a person should be scrutinised for."
Addressing the constant criticism, she further explained, "It is important to be honest. Whether you do something or you don't, people are going to have an issue with it. I was judged when I looked a certain way when I was young and I was called certain names, and when I changed how I look, people had an issue with it too. You should do what is right."
Khushi Kapoor's upcoming projects
Despite the challenges, Khushi Kapoor is staying focused on her film career.
After debuting in The Archies, she is now gearing up for Loveyapa with Junaid Khan, releasing on February 7.
