Aquaman actress Amber Heard took the stand for the second time on Thursday. Amber's emotional testimony began in her defense against a defamation claim brought by her ex-husband, Johnny Depp.
On her second day of testimony, Heard shared details of alleged physical abuse by Depp. Heard says Johnny would mistreat her occasionally.
Heard said, "Nothing I did made him stop hitting me. Nothing. I tried for over a year, maybe two, or just not responding physically, not responding verbally, just staring at him; I tried to freeze, I tried to go to a different place. I would try then lashing out verbally. I would try to threaten that if he hit me again that I would call the police."
Sharing pictures to corroborate her claim, Heard said during a Dec. 15, 2015 fight, he allegedly busted her lip, gave her two black eyes, and pulled out chunks of her hair.
¡°That¡¯s the bed that Johnny broke while on top of me,¡± Heard said after she showed a photo of the bed in court.
Amber Heard said Johnny Depp ripped out chunks of her hair during a fight in December 2015 after dragging her and punching her.
¡°My head was bleeding from the ripped out hair chunks of hair on the floor all over the place,¡± she said.
The court was presented a photo of Heard with a busted lip and two black eyes, which resulted from the alleged attack by Johnny Depp.
She shared a detailed account of her and Depp's alleged fights over actor James Franco during her testimony.
Amber testified that in 2014, while she was filming a movie with James Franco, Depp grew insecure and angry over romantic scenes between them.
She said,
¡°Any sort of romantic scene, and I wasn¡¯t explicit about what I was going to do, and then I was accused of withholding information and hiding it from him. So I didn¡¯t want the fight, of course, I didn¡¯t want the argument, but I had to kind of eggshell tiptoe around how to tell him when I had any sort of scene like that.¡±
Reacting to the same, Heard claimed Depp threw objects at her and then kicked her in the back during a fight.
"I feel this boot in my back. He just kicked me in the back. I fell to the floor and caught myself. No one said anything, and no one did anything," Heard testified. She added, "I felt so embarrassed that he could kick her to the ground in front of people."
Heard testified that right after the incident, Depp apologized for his behavior. He called a medical team to help him detox from drugs.
She said, "This is typical of the apologies that I would get when he took it too far physically," Heard testified about one apology text message from Depp. Amber added, "I was encouraged because I thought it meant he understood that he could hurt me. Sometimes I didn't think he understood how much he could hurt me physically."
Depp, 58, is suing Heard for libel in Fairfax County Circuit Court after she wrote a December 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post, describing herself as "a public figure representing domestic abuse."
The article never mentions Depp by name, but Depp's lawyers say he was defamed because it referred to accusations she made in 2016 during their divorce proceedings.
Depp testified he never struck Heard and that he was the abuse victim. He said he was punched and banged by her on many occasions and that she threw things at him.
He described Heard as having a "need for conflict."
Heard took the stand for the first time Wednesday afternoon in the now four-week trial.
She told jurors how they met while filming a movie and fell in love. Despite their 22-year age difference, Heard said there was an instant connection when Depp met with her as he considered her for a role in his film "The Rum Diary."
"I was a no-name actor. I was 22. He was twice my age. He's this world-famous actor, and here we are getting along about obscure books, old blues" music, said Heard, now 36.
Testimony will resume at 9 a.m. ET on Monday, May 16 in Fairfax County Circuit Court.
