Amber Heard Testifies About Alleged Abuse By Ex-Husband Johnny Depp In Defamation Trial
While Heard took the stand and shared her alleged ordeal, Depp was seen doodling and avoiding eye contact with her.
For the first time, Actor Amber Heard took the witness stand on Wednesday to testify against former husband Johnny Depp in alleged abuse allegations. Heard's ex-husband and fellow actor Johnny Depp has filed a defamation suit against her.
The high-profile trial is currently being held in Fairfax County, Virginia, and is in its fourth week. Today Heard took the stand and started sharing details of her whirlwind romance with Depp, which from the starting she said was 'intense.'
Ahead of the trial, Amber Heard said in a statement that "it brings me great pain to have to live out the details of our past life together in front of the world".
She said the two bonded over blues music and literature while promoting the 2011 film "The Rum Diary." Heard shared that she was 'floored' by Depp at the beginning of the relationship, who would occasionally bombard her with 'expensive' gifts.
Heard called Depp a "perfect partner" at first. Heard said Depp's personality and behavior saw a drastic change after breaking his sobriety and abstaining from alcohol a year into their relationship.
Calling him 'jealous,' Heard accused Depp of doubting her repeatedly of having affairs.
Recalling the first time Depp allegedly heard Amber, she said she had just asked about a tattoo of his.
Talking about her tattoo, Depp said "wino" and slapped her when she laughed about it.
¡°I will never forget it,¡± Heard said. ¡°It changed my life.¡±
Heard said she wanted to believe that Depp must have been high on cocaine because there was a jar on the table, but she didn¡¯t see him take anything.
She said she knew he had started drinking again at the time.
¡°I just laughed because I thought he was joking. And he slapped me across the face,¡± Heard said. ¡°And I laughed. I laughed because I didn¡¯t know what else to do. I thought, ¡®this must be a joke.¡¯¡±
Depp previously testified that Heard created an issue out of his tattoo and that one had been modified after he broke up with a former girlfriend, actor Winona Ryder.
Depp denied hitting her over the issue. Heard said the shift in Johnny's behavior was absurd that she would not understand the 'real him.'

She went on to say, "I wanted to want to leave him. I wanted him to get better,¡± she said while breaking down. ¡°And he expressed to me so many times when he was in that period of getting clean and sober, ¡®You saved my life. Baby girl, you saved my life.¡¯ Everyone else is saying that to me, and I believed it.¡¯¡±
While Heard took the stand and shared her alleged ordeal, Depp was seen doodling and avoiding eye contact with her.
The ¡®Blow¡¯ star (58) has accused Heard (36) of defamation in 2018 due to an op-ed she wrote for ¡®The Washington Post¡¯ in which she opened up about surviving domestic violence, but she did not mention his name in the article.
Even though the essay never mentions Depp by name, his attorneys said it indirectly refers to allegations she made against him during their 2016 divorce. After Depp's defamation case, Heard is countersuing Depp seeking $100 million in damages.
The couple met on the ¡®Rum Diary¡¯ set in 2011 and married in 2015. However, the marriage was short-lived. They split in May 2016 and Heard accused the actor of sexual abuse. Depp denied the claims, and they settled their divorce in August 2016.
