'Kindness Does Go A Long Way': Kate Winslet Pauses Interview To Comfort A First-Time Interviewer
The video of Winslet reassuring a young, nervous reporter has gone viral on social media, with over a million views on Twitter in less than 24 hours.
The experience of a 'first' is always one to remember. It might also be accompanied by worry, stress, or nervousness. It's never easy to venture into uncharted terrain, and if a Hollywood A-lister is on camera, the pressure really piles on.
There have been many memorable moments during Kate Winslet's worldwide press junket for "Avatar: The Way of Water," but none can match the time she comforted a nervous first-time interviewer.

In an interview with German TV station ZDF (via The Independent), Winslet was asked a question by teenage reporter Martha, "Um, it¡¯s my first time."
Winslet then paused during the interview, leaned closer to the nervous reporter, and asked, "This is your first time doing it?" Winslet then said,
"Ok, well, guess what? When we do this interview, it¡¯s going to be the most amazing interview ever. And do you know why? Because we¡¯ve decided that it¡¯s going to be. So, we¡¯ve decided right now, you and me, that this is going to be a really fantastic interview."
Encouraging Martha, Kate said, "You can ask me anything you want, and you don¡¯t have to be scared. Everything is going to be amazing. Ok? You¡¯ve got this. Ok, let¡¯s do it!"
I often spend some moments before we record, reassuring the people I interview that they are already fascinating & they already know all their answers & all we¡¯re doing is having a conversation.

A Kate Winslet anecdote relevant to this from the 2009 Academy Awards, when she won her Oscar (I covered "backstage" in the Interview Room). When she got to the dais in the interview room, a British reporter asked her a question. She shouted his name and ran over to hug him. 1/3 https://t.co/DQs5WLg8EY

In the film "Avatar: The Way of Water," Winslet portrays the role of Ronal, a free diver from the Metkayina water tribe who also happens to be the village chief's wife.
In the movie, Ronal is a pregnant mother, and director James Cameron thought this was an essential part of the character to be shown on screen.
The second installment of James Cameron's "Avatar" franchise has earned more than $1 billion worldwide.
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang also star in the movie.
