For those who don't know, Brody had kissed Berry unexpectedly as he accepted his Best Actor prize for The Pianist. Berry had previously acknowledged that it took her off sby urprise. In a 2017 interview, Berry talked candidly about the kiss. "What the f*** is happening right now?" was her first thought, she admitted, but she went on anyhow.

Halle Berry talks about the kiss

¡°That was one hell of a night for him, and for me as well. To be a part of his moment¡­ tonight I had to pay him back,¡± Berry told Variety during the red carpet. She added that, ¡°I¡¯ve seen him out at parties, but this is the first time since that night that I¡¯ve seen him on the red carpet somewhere. He¡¯s nominated this year. He deserved that.¡±

At the event on Sunday night, Adrien Brody won his second Oscar, this time for best actor in a leading role, for his performance as the lead in The Brutalist.

At the unexpected moment, the audience giggled and shouted. Along with the audience, Georgina Chapman, Brody's girlfriend, could be seen laughing and clapping.
