Titanic Child Actor, With Just 1 Dialogue, Is Still Receiving Royalty Cheques After 25 Years
Reece Thompson who played the Irish kid in Titanic and had just 1 dialogue is still receiving his royalty cheques after 25 years.
James Cameron's epic romance and disaster saga Titanic is one of the most memorable films of all time. The film still remains one of the top 5 most earning films across the globe. Titanic was inspired by a real-life incident and starred Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet in lead roles.
The film was recently in theatres again after completing 25 years and here¡¯s an interesting anecdote we bring in its reference.
Remember the kid who was an Irish third-class passenger and his one dialogue broke millions of hearts. Played by Reece Thompson during the boat sinking scene, the kid asks, "What are we doing, Mommy?" and his mother replies, ¡°We¡¯re just waiting, dear. When they finish putting first-class people in the boats, they¡¯ll be starting with us, and we¡¯ll want to be ready, right?¡±
This scene shook the audience to the core and guess what the kid is in his 30s now and still receives his royalty checks after 25 years.
The former actor who is now a digital marketing director in Utah, USA spoke to Australia's Network 10 and shared, ¡°'Yeah, I still do [receive royalty cheques], it's true.¡± Recee added, ¡°But I haven't updated my address in several years, honestly since the last time I got interviewed for this. So, I haven't seen them [the cheques] in a few years. I'm just assuming that they are still coming."
Reece revealed how his recognition of playing that role increased over the years.
"It's interesting, I'd say my family and I mostly just think that it's interesting that people are still finding it interesting. "My wife and I mostly just get a kick out of comments. They are mostly just interesting to read, but ¨C yeah ¨C it feels like a dream it was so long ago. Any number of different things [are said], honestly, some of the comments I just can't believe that it's happening 25 years later.¡±
Reece further shared, "Now people are beginning to associate my face with it, whereas before it was a random fact about me, it's kind of weird." For the unversed, On April 1912, over 1500 passengers and crew lost their lives after the RMS Titanic sank after hitting an iceberg while on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City.
