"Jersey" starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur, was released in theatres on April 22nd and is now available on Netflix. Jersey is a Hindi remake of the same-named Telugu film. Gowtam Tinnanuri is the writer of this film. The Telugu version, starring Nani had released in 2019, won two National Awards.
In the Hindi remake, Mrunal Thakur plays Shahid's on-screen love interest, and his father, Pankaj Kapur, plays his coach.
Jersey's clash with KGF 2 was causing problems for Shahid Kapoor's film. Jersey had a disappointing week at the box office, as KGF 2 set new opening records. Jersey was the film that was accused of plagiarising and had its release date pushed back to April 22. Despite positive word of mouth, Jersey failed to turn a profit at the box office.

The Film's Plot:
Jersey revolves around the story of a National Level cricket player who saw nothing but passion for the game. However, circumstances turned unfavourable for him after his marriage and child. After gaining motivation, he ignites the fierce spirit to thrive again in the game. He gets back on his feet at the age of 36 and puts in his best efforts to revive his stellar passion. He recalls his old days of rising as a Ranji Trophy player and his struggles to finally make it to the National team. He then promises his son that he will earn the jersey back for his country and gift him his achievements.
When Shahid was asked if he based his character in Jersey on any cricketer during the film's promotion, he said, "I have seen a lot of cricket as I am a huge cricket buff. You cannot be as good as a professional cricketer playing at an international level, you can't get there."
Apart from sports, Jersey is also a heartwarming tale of a father-son bond. Shahid said that now that he himself is a father of two kids ¨C 6-year-old daughter Misha and 4-year-old son Zain, he has learned more and understands his character better.
