'It Wasn't About Ego', Kiccha Sudeep On Spat With Ajay Devgn That Sparked National Language Debate
In a recent interview, Kiccha Sudeep has said that he never wanted to be rude or arrogant and he had a very 'honest point' that was respected by Ajay Devgn as well.
Kiccha Sudeep and Ajay Devgn's Twitter discussion over Hindi as the National Language had made a lot of headlines in April. As soon as the two superstars engaged in a healthy discussion on Twitter, people started weighing in and the debate continued. In a recent interview, Kiccha Sudeep has now said that he never wanted to be rude or arrogant and he had a very 'honest point' that was respected by Ajay Devgn as well.
Kiccha Sudeep On Twitter Spat With Ajay Devgn
While speaking to Bollywood Hungama about the same, Kiccha Sudeep said, "Ajay sir and me are two individuals who have seen the industry. He¡¯s seen more than me. We are grown-ups, we understand what is what. We were talking about black and white, and we didn¡¯t want to settle with the grey. A lot of people took the topic, but nobody tagged us. They just wanted the topic, and they took it politically all over the place. And that is a zone where we both don¡¯t belong."
He added, "He had a question to me, and I respected that, and I wanted to answer. Though that came in Hindi¡ I understood Hindi, but I responded in English so that everybody understands what I was trying to say. Of course, Ajay sir got a different interpretation of the whole thing, but that¡¯s fair enough. But I also had to make a point, the point being that¡ It wasn¡¯t about ego. If I wanted to provoke or be arrogant, I would¡¯ve been arrogant from the first tweet. I didn¡¯t have to wait for my third one. But what would have happened if I had sent the text in Kannada? This is a very honest point, which I think even he respected.'
How It All Began
It all began when Kiccha Sudeep, during an event, said that Hindi is no more our National language and that Bollywood should say that they are 'pan-India films'.
Responding to him, Ajay Devgn had tweeted that Hindi 'was and will always be our mother tongue and national language'. He had also questioned the actor about South films being dubbed in Hindi.
The tweet, written in Devanagari script, read, "Hindi was, is and always will be our national language. My brother, according to you if Hindi is not our national language then why do you release your mother tongue movies by dubbing them in Hindi?¡±
After Ajay Devgn's tweet, Kichcha Sudeep took to Twitter and posted a series of tweets, explaining that his statement had been taken out of context and that he respects every language of the country. He wrote, "Hello @ajaydevgn sir¡ The context to why I said that line is entirely different to the way I guess it has reached you. Probably will emphasise on why the statement was made when I see you in person. It wasn¡¯t to hurt, provoke or to start any debate. Why would I sir."
In another tweet, he wrote, "I love and respect every language of our country sir. I would want this topic to rest as I said the line in a totally different context. Much love and wishes to you always. Hoping to seeing you soon."
