Kamal Haasan makes an Ajith Kumar-like request, asks fans to stop calling him ¡®Ulaganayagan¡¯

Kamal Haasan, who began his career as a child actor with the Gemini Ganesan-led Kalathur Kannamma (1960), has been an integral part of the Indian film industry for nearly six decades. During his long and illustrious career, he has impressed movie buffs with unforgettable performances and gripping screen presence.

Over the years, fans have often referred to him as ¡®Ulaganayagan¡¯. The title means ¡®Hero of the world/universe¡¯ in Tamil. Now, the veteran actor has asked his supporters to stop calling him 'Ulaganayagan¡¯.

Kamal Haasan gives up ¡®Ulaganayagan¡¯ title

Kamal Haasan, who turned 70 on November 7, has often impressed his fans with his bold and outspoken nature. On Monday, November 11, the Vikram star took to X, previously known as Twitter, to urge fans to stop calling him ¡®Ulaganayagan¡¯ and emphasised that no one can be bigger than the craft of acting. He added that he is aware of his ¡®imperfections¡¯ as a performer.

"It is my humble belief that the artist must not be elevated above the art. I prefer to remain grounded, constantly aware of my imperfections and my duty to improve. Hence, after considerable reflection, I feel compelled to respectfully decline all such titles or prefixes,¡± read his note.

He added that he is grateful for the love he has received over the years and requested his supporters to refer to him as ¡®KH¡¯ or ¡®Kamal¡¯ going forward.

Interestingly, Ajith Kumar had made a similar request to his fans a while ago and urged them to stop addressing him as ¡®Thala¡¯ (leader). The Vivegam actor began his career in 1990 and soon emerged as a force to reckon with because of his stylish screen presence Fans started addressing him as Thala after the release of Dheena (2001). Movie buffs also called him the ¡®Ultimate Star¡¯. However, a few years ago, he asked fans to stop using such titles. Ajith also dissolved all fan clubs and asked his supporters to focus on their personal lives.

It appears that Kamal has taken a leaf out of his book.

Busy time for Kamal Haasan

Kamal Haasan, meanwhile, is going through a busy phase on the work front. The actor was last seen in Shankar¡¯s Indian 2, which bombed at the box office and received negative reviews. He will soon be seen in Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam. The actioner is slated to hit the screens on June 5, 2025. Kamal also has Indian 3, the third installment of the Indian franchise, in his kitty.

He is also expected to star in Vikram 2, the final film of the Loki Cinematic Universe. Additionally, he has the Prabhas-led Kalki 2 in his kitty.
