Naga Chaitanya, one of Telugu cinema¡¯s most popular names, is set to tie the knot with actress Sobhita Dhulipala. The wedding, which is expected to take place on December 4, promises to be a memorable affair. It will be attended by the couple¡¯s near and dear ones. Ahead of the big day, here is a look at Chay's professional journey and his rise to stardom in Tollywood.
Naga Chaitanya, actor Nagarjuna¡¯s son, began his career with the 2009 release Josh. The actioner was directed by Vasu Varma and proved to be a good launch vehicle for the ¡®Yuva Samrat¡¯. He then delivered a big hit with Gautham Menon¡¯s Ye Maaya Chesave, which hit the screens in 2010. The romantic drama, which featured Samantha as the leading lady, attained cult status because of its unforgettable songs.
Chay then consolidated his standing with 100% Love, which hit the screens the next year. He, however, wasn¡¯t able to keep the momentum going as films such as Dhada and Bejawada failed to live up to expectations at the box office.
The year 2014 proved to be a memorable one for Naga Chaitanya as Manam, which saw him act alongside his legendary grandfather ANR and Nagarjuna, received critical acclaim and made a decent impact at the box office.
He subsequently appeared in films such as Autonagar Surya and Oka Laila Kosam, impressing fans with his performances. These releases helped him consolidate his standing as the choice of the younger generation. Premam (2016), a remake of the Malayalam film of the same name, proved to be another landmark release for him as it emerged as a commercial success despite comparisons with the original version.
The next couple of years were a bit challenging for him. Films such as Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo, Savyasachi, and Shailaja Reddy Alludu did not do as well as expected and received mixed reviews. Chay eventually silenced his detractors with Majili (2019), which marked his first collaboration with Samantha after their marriage in 2017. He received rave reviews for his portrayal of a man struggling with his past and gave proof of his abilities as an actor, Moreover, the film did pretty well at the box office.
Venky Mama, which also hit the screens the same year, also did reasonably well at the box office despite mixed reviews. Chay also scored another hit with Love Story (2021), co-starring Sai Pallavi.
In 2022, Chay made his Bollywood debut with Laal Singh Chaddha. The film created a great deal of buzz among fans before the release but ended up being a flop. He also suffered major setbacks when Thank You and Custody bombed at the box office. Chay, however, managed to give his fans something to cheer for even during this challenging time when he made his OTT debut with Dhootha. The series received favourable reviews and emerged as a ¡®digital hit¡¯
Naga Chaitanya will be hoping to score a hit with Thandel, The film, starring Sai Pallavi as the leading lady, will hit the screens in February 2025.
