5 actors who had a traumatic childhood
1. Hrithik Roshan
The Krrish star didn¡¯t always have a lavish life like what he enjoys now. Hrithik in an August 2023 interview with Film Companion revealed how his character of Rohit in Koi¡ Mil Gaya was a few leaves from his childhood. Roshan shared, ¡° I experienced being bullied. I experienced having a stutter which was a handicap and was made fun of and people laughed¡ I knew I had the heart of Rohit¡ so half the battle was won. Then came the craft.¡±
During one of his appearances on Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, Hrithik also revealed that he lived in a house that was barely just walls and floors. They slept on gaddas and mats until his father got a stable job.
2. Kangana Ranaut
In a 2016 interview with PTI, the Queen actress went on to claim that she was considered an unwanted girl child by her parents. Kangana shared, ¡°When I was born, my parents, my mother especially, couldn¡¯t come to terms with the fact that they had another baby girl¡ Every time a guest visited, or there was a gathering, they repeated this story in front of me about how I was the unwanted child.¡±
During one of her Lock Upp episodes, Kangana admitted that she was sexually harassed at an age she didn¡¯t know what it was. ¡°In our town, (when) I was very young¡ a boy who was a few years older to me, he used to inappropriately touch me¡. We were all very young around five-six years old, he used to call us over and undress us,¡± Kangana shared.
3. Akshay Kumar
Bollywood¡¯s Khiladi Kumar spoke to ANI in October 2023 where he revealed that his huge joint family lived in the same room. Akshay shared, ¡°We were 24 people living in the same house in Chandni Chowk. We all would sleep in the same room. In the morning, when we woke up for exercise, everyone would jump over each other to get out." Even when Ashay¡¯s family moved to Mumbai, they were living in a small house in Sion Koliwada which they rented for Rs. 100.
Not just financial struggle, Kumar also had to face physical harassment by a man. In a 2017 conversation with Hindustan Times, Akshay revealed, ¡°When I was a very young kid, a lift-man once touched me inappropriately. Since I had good communication with my parents, I told them about this incident.¡± The man was apprehended and was found to be a repeat offender.
4. Anurag Kashyap
The filmmaker in a Hindustan Times interview revealed that while growing up, he was a constant victim of sexual abuse by seniors. ¡°I was deeply affected by it,¡± he said adding he would go to places no one would go to to avoid bullies. ¡°I would read. As a direct effect [of the abuse in school], I built muscle in college, started playing sports, and would often be seen with a hockey stick in hand. I would get out of the oppressive college cliques, and form my own parallel world, all the while protecting those who weren't strong enough."
5. Sonam Kapoor
During one of the roundtable interviews with Rajeev Masand, Sonam shared that she was molested when she was young. While she didn¡¯t speak about it for several years, it was traumatising for her. ¡°I remember the incident so clearly. There was a man who came from behind and just held my breasts like that. I started shaking and shivering and I didn¡¯t know what was going on and I started crying right there.¡±
