Everyone Including Anupam Mittal Is Wondering Why Influencers Are At Cannes, Here's The Answer
What are influencers doing at Cannes Film Festival? Everyone on X (formerly called Twitter) including Shark Tank India's Anupam Mittal is wondering if it's a fashion show and why social media personalities have been invited.
A lot of influencers and social media personalities are making a lot of buzz at the Cannes Film Festival 2024. Nancy Tyagi received love from all corners of India for designing and stitching her own gown and representing India on the prestigious stage. But what have influencers got to do with film festival?
What are influencers doing at Cannes Film Festival?
Is the Cannes Film Festival about fashion? Most people making headlines are influencers for what they are wearing at Cannes 2024. Very less people are actually talking about movies and actors, writers and directors who graced the prestigious film festival because of their films. Do you know that seven Indian films are screening at Cannes this year or that Naseeruddin Shah and Prateik Babbar were invited to attend the screening of the Indian film Manthan? Everyone, meanwhile, is wondering what influencers are doing there?
"Some of these influencers attending the Cannes Film festival is giving me second hand embarrassment oh my god... They be letting anyone in these days," one of the tweets read.

It should be for filmmakers and people related to film industry only.

Here's what influencers are doing at the Cannes!
According to reports, most attendees at Cannes have been invited to participate in various events throughout the week. Fashion influencer Kinnari Jain revealed that she received her invitation only 15 days before the event. Another influencer, Viraj Ghelani, was reportedly invited by Warner Bros India to attend the premiere of "Furiosa." RJ Karishma also attended the first major screening at Cannes with Warner Bros India. While some influencers were invited by different companies, others were invited by organizations such as the Film Heritage Foundation, which supported a special screening of Indian cinema at the Cannes 2024 Film Festival.
Furthermore, this year's theme is Many Ways To Be An Icon, which seems to align with the celebration of the confidence and self-empowerment often displayed by social media influencers. Amid cancel culture and trends like Blockout 2024, (which includes Alia Bhatt's name as well) where fans boycott major celebrities, it appears that brands are increasingly turning to social media influencers. These influencers have a closer connection with their audience and wield significant influence with their followers.

Even last year, a lot of influencers walked the red carpet for event. Vivek Agnihotri had taken a dig at them saying that Cannes has become more of a fashion event than celebration of art and films. "I witnessed that fashion models (actors and influencers) wearing weird costumes was the main attraction at the red carpet. And the greatest of the actors and directors walked by and nobody cared about them. In fact, they were being pushed around," he wrote.

I thought I should remind you just in case you were thinking it¡¯s a fashion show.
Furthermore, he questioned Bollywood's silence on the same and said, "They are busy doing brand promotions and that¡¯s why they have to keep quiet. It¡¯s like if you dance at somebody¡¯s wedding and take money for it, you can¡¯t criticise the food at the wedding. They have no spine left. Also, Bollywood actors have become social media influencers, so they are not acting anymore. For them, life is cool."
At the 76th Cannes Film Festival, influencers including Kusha Kapila, Dolly Singh, Masoom Minawala, Ranveer Allahbadia, and Shivani Bafna among others had walked the red carpet.
At Cannes 2024, Niharika NM, Nancy Tyagi, Ankush Bahuguna, Karishma Gangwal, Vishnu Kaushal, Masoom Minawala, Viraj Ghelani, Aastha Shah and Rahi Chadda are all at Cannes.
