Meet Anupam Tripathi, An Indian Who Plays A Pakistani In Hit Korean Series 'Squid Game'!
It won't be an exaggeration to say that fans of 'Squid Game' are equally fascinated with actor Anupam Tripathi.
People have been obsessing over the Korean show 'Squid Game.' The show has gained many fans since it was released on a popular streaming platform a few days ago.
It won't be an exaggeration to say that fans of 'Squid Game' are equally fascinated with actor Anupam Tripathi.
The 32-year-old actor was born in India but later moved to South Korea. Anupam moved to Korea in 2010 after his friend recommended that he get a scholarship from the Korea National University of Arts (KARTs), and his life has never been the same.
A Korea National University for Arts graduate, Anupam Tripathi has been chasing his acting dreams for a long time.
Apart from being one of the few actors of non-Korean descent in the Korean TV and film industry, it's even more fascinating to see an Indian face in the K-drama community.
Anupam's journey from being born in India to settling and making a life for himself in Korea wasn't a cakewalk.
Reports hint that when Tripathi had initially moved to Korea, he did face issues because of cultural differences, including food and language. Still, he was adamant and wanted to be consistent about making a career in acting.
¡°I spent 10 years in Korea as a student and a theater actor with the thought of persevering every day,¡± he said, according to Yonhap News.
Despite his family's disapproval, he royally managed to juggle his work as a theatre actor and his studies.
In 2014, he got his first movie role in Ode To My Father, which ended up becoming the fourth highest-grossing film in the history of South Korean cinema.
For several years, he was offered similar roles that mostly revolved around him playing a migrant worker. He never complained that he was 'typecast'; instead, he took it as a chance to improve his Korean.
Finally, he bagged a role of a lifetime that changed his career. He played a Pakistani migrant worker in Squid Game.
According to a report in TodayOnline, his family is happy with the success Tripathi has found. However, he has just one regret that he won't share it with his father. He was quoted in the report as saying, "My dad would have been happy to see [my success], but he passed away in 2017 (...) He would have been delighted."
Even fans are delighted to spot him in the hit Korean Series.

I haven't seen the colonizers in #SquidGame yet (tho I suspect I've heard them). KDramas don't have a problem w/ non-Korean actors. i.e. Anupam Tripathi is a wonderful actor who's so good! If casting directors can find him, why can't they find a white person who can actually act? pic.twitter.com/uiXUFrBjaX

The socio-political aspect; the treatment of foreign workers, the harsh working and living conditions was a nice touch and added a dynamic angle to the personal stories.
