'People Would Call Me Stick', Rakul Preet Singh Recalls Being Told She Is Too Skinny In South
Actress Rakul Preet Singh has now opened up about how she was called 'a stick' and was told that she is too thin when she debuted in South films.
Actresses are expected to fit certain standards of 'beauty' and are often targeted for not doing the same. Time and again, many actresses have opened up about facing trolls and being body-shamed for being too skinny or gaining a few kilos.
Actress Rakul Preet Singh has now opened up about how she was called 'a stick' and was told that she is too thin when she debuted in South films.
Rakul Preet was a guest on Shilpa Shetty's chat show Shape of You and recalled how she was compared to a 'stick' as she was too skinny at the time of her debut in South films.
She said, "When I debuted, Samantha (Ruth Prabhu) and Kajal (Aggarwal) were already stars, and they were fit. I think people became conscious about how they look on the screen because the content was being consumed everywhere. But when I debuted, I was told I am too thin. People would call me ¡®stick¡¯ and I would say ¡®no¡¯. But after two-three years I gave in also."
She then recalled how she had to lose 10 kgs for Luv Ranjan's De De Pyaar De and was told that she'll have to lose weight to star in Bollywood films.
She said, "When I came to Mumbai and I started auditioning at the age of 20, I was told that I will have to lose weight because that was the standard of Bombay. But I didn¡¯t have access or understanding since I was a kid. I lost 10 kg in 50 days, and I didn¡¯t think I was 10 kg overweight, but I was."
Rakul Preet Singh's latest outing, Runway 34, received positive reviews from critics. The film is based on a true incident which dates to August 18, 2015, when a Jet Airways flight was not allowed to land due to low visibility owing to recent rains. The film released in theatres on April 29 and has been directed by Ajay Devgn, who also plays the leading role.
