Shahid Kapoor believes Geet & Aditya from Jab We Met would be frustrated & divorced: 'Who can put up with her?!'
Shahid Kapoor humorously agrees with Imtiaz Ali that the characters Aditya and Geet from Jab We Met would likely be heading for divorce today. Despite this playful view, the 2007 film remains iconic, capturing the hearts of fans, especially with the real-life chemistry between Shahid and Kareena during a turbulent time in their relationship.
Jab We Met, directed by Imtiaz Ali in 2007, is considered a cult classic romantic comedy in Indian cinema. It still has a special place in fans' hearts who love to revisit it often. However, both Imtiaz Ali and Shahid Kapoor, who played the male lead, Aditya, have a more cynical view of the characters' relationship post marriage.
In a recent interview with The Indian Express, Shahid humorously agreed with Imtiaz's belief that Aditya and Geet, portrayed by Kareena Kapoor, would likely be seeking divorce today.
Shahid joked, "That's actually a fun idea that Geet and Aditya are now breaking up because they are frustrated with each other. Aditya is like, 'She is her own favourite, who can ever put up with her?'"
Despite the playful commentary, Shahid made it clear that he didn't want to upset fans but was simply aligning with the director's vision. "If our filmmaker thinks these two will divorce each other, then who am I to come in between? I am just an actor," he remarked.
Jab We Met, down memory lane
When Jab We Met was released in 2007, it resonated with audiences not just for its story, but also because of the real-life dynamics between its leads, Shahid and Kareena.
The movie came out during a period of personal turmoil for the couple, as they were in the midst of an intense breakup.
Despite the separation, the film became one of their most iconic collaborations. The chemistry between Shahid and Kareena on-screen captured the hearts of many.
Since then, they have not screen space in any movie, though they were a part of the cast in the 2016 film Udta Punjab.
When asked about the possibility of a Jab We Met sequel at the trailer launch of Udta Punjab, the two actors, now years removed from their past romance and married to their respective partner, brushed it off.
Kareena expressed that it would be up to Imtiaz Ali to decide on a sequel, while Shahid joked that the director had likely "moved on" from the idea.
Shahid, who is currently working on his upcoming projects like Deva and a film with Vishal Bhardwaj, and Kareena, who last starred in Singham Again, have both carved out successful careers post their time in the movie.
Still, Jab We Met remains a significant chapter in both their personal and professional lives.
