If you are thinking about giving a new life to your home garden, don't get discouraged thinking about the harsh sunlight. Just like some plants prefer cool weather for their growth, some rejoice in the hot summer climate. Here are 5 flowering plants that won't just survive but thrive in your summer garden.
1. Sunflower
Sunflowers are the perfect summer flowers as they require long hours in the sun to grow properly. Sow the seeds of sunflowers directly in the soil, keeping in mind that they require moist and well-drained soil. Make sure the seeds are about an inch deep and at least 12-15 inches apart. Water the seeds regularly, and you should see them sprouting in about 7-10 days.

2. Bougainvillea
If you want to give your outdoor space a punch of colour, plant these tropical vines that come in various colours ranging from vibrant pink to calming white. It has thin paper-like flowers that need at least six or more hours of direct sunlight per day. Bougainvillea needs to be planted in well-drained soil as they don't like to be kept wet. The easiest way to propagate bougainvillaea is to grow it from cuttings while growing bougainvillaea through seeds requires immense patience as germination can take 30 days.
3. Marigold
Marigolds are well known for their bright colours and ability to liven up any space. These flowers have multiple layers of overlapped petals and are very easy to grow. Blossoms can be orange, yellow, red, or any combination of those colours. These flowers require 7-8 hours of sunshine to bloom. Plant these seeds in one to one and a half inch depth with at least 12 inches apart to give the plants room to grow. Water the soil regularly, and you should see the seeds sprouting in 5-10 days.
4. Vinca
Vinca is popularly known as 'Sada bahar' in India and although vinca seeds can be sown throughout the year the summer season is an excellent time for planting. Vincas also come in a wide range of colours from pink and purple to white and love to grow in direct sunlight. Vinca seeds should be sown at a depth of ? inches and 8-10 inches apart. Keep the soil moist and see the seeds germinating in 15-20 days.
5. Jasmine
Jasmine can be an amazing addition to your home garden with its beautiful white flowers and sweet scent. Jasmine can be grown in full sun to partial shade areas. Jasmine can also be planted like a vine but it requires a sturdy support structure for it to climb. Plant the jasmine seeds about 1/4 inch deep in the soil and water them with care and patience as they may take several weeks to sprout. But once they sprout jasmine grows rapidly and would require regular maintenance and pruning.
Always remember to water your plants regularly, especially as the temperature soars, and keep an eye out for pests. With just a little care, love and patience you can also have a healthy and colourful home garden.
