Holi colours for coloured hair: Can oiling a day before help?
Before you step out to play Holi with your loved ones, ensure that you cover your hair either with a scarf or a cap to protect it from harsh colours. ¡°Avoid keeping your hair open while playing Holi as the colours can cause extreme dryness. Oiling can help in protecting your hair. Applying coconut or almond oil a day before Holi can help form a protective layer on your hair that can prevent the colours from sticking,¡± says Dr. Shareefa Chause, Dermatologist, Dr. Shareefa Skin Care Clinic, Mumbai.
Holi is one of the most colourful festivals celebrated in India by people of every age group. People come together to dance, smear colours, and enjoy the festival in full glory. Harsh colours combined with sun exposure can cause irritation, dryness, and dullness of the hair and scalp.

After you are done playing, provide your hair with a much-needed haircare routine. Dr. Chause recommends, ¡°Start with rinsing your hair with plain water to get rid of excess colour. Use a mild shampoo followed up with a deep conditioner. This can help restore moisture. Try to avoid or limit the usage of heat styling tools for a few days to prevent your hair from getting further damaged.¡±
