Love At Work: Stories Of People Finding Their Baes In The Office Bay That Will Make You Smile

Ever since I started working, I have realised that your work colleagues are next to your kin. You may interact with them much more than your biological family members.

Therefore, it's almost inevitable that one day you will find yourself attracted to somebody whose face you see every day, or get a whiff of their perfume as they walk by, causing an ache in your empty, love-starved heart.

And then you find yourself at one of the greatest crossroads of life. Contemplating the consequences of your action. And soon you're opening doors for that certain someone from work who has the potential of being your bae.

But surely I aren't the first working professional to have these thoughts? Are there people at my workplace in the same boat as I? Maybe some even found love at work? That's why I went around and found people who found baes in their work bay. These ¡®confessions¡¯ should be a part of your motivation mantras of pulling yourself out of bed every morning and reporting to work on time!

1. I had just joined my new team and the first couple of days went in being introduced to the entire office that came with it. However there was one specific person who was rather shy, who caught my attention. Shy people are my weakness, they excite my extrovert nature. I remember watching him enter with his KFC lunch every afternoon, salivating at it. Till one day he caught me staring at his chicken wings. Needless to say, I took a bite of it and since then we¡¯ve been inseparable. He still gets KFC for lunch but this time it's an order for two.

2. When I came out of the closet, the news spread at my workplace. Nobody was uncomfortable, but it was still something for them to gossip about, and frankly I couldn¡¯t care any less. However, the only good that came out of it was finding love. She¡¯s still in the closet but it doesn¡¯t matter, we are committed to one another and not to the society. It¡¯s fun being naughty on our office private messaging. There's a thrill factor to it!

3. I have to print and photocopy quite a bit of my work. One day, by mistake, I printed an email that was sent by my ex. Yeah, I was dumped on mail. The prints came out and were in the tray of the printer. I was attending an important phone call and forgot about them for a moment. A guy walked up to me and handed me over my copies. I saw the email on top of it and looked at him mortified. He just smiled and told me he didn¡¯t want my personal matters spread, so he came to give them before anyone else saw it. That day he also gave me his heart.

4. Like any other office we have late working hours as well. With so much happening everyday, work keeps piling on and eventually it becomes normal doing overtime. So, it was one night when I was going to the pantry, I noticed a woman struggling with the coffee machine. Her fingers were as confused as the look on her face and I found that rather charming. I made her coffee that evening and we stood chatting for a good while. She found me on the office chat portal and I was again charmed, so charmed that we got married last month.

5. There¡¯s a small room on our office floor that can accommodate two people comfortably. Amongst the three publications on the same floor, writers would come and go out of the room. It can get noisy out there with everyone chatting and laughing. One afternoon while I was furiously typing out an article, the door opened and in came a girl whose perfume was the reason I took notice of her, to be honest. Yet, her smile was equally noticeable. I started finding ways to work in the same room and would eagerly wait for her to come as well. We've been together for eight months now and going strong, and that room is our territory.

6. I sit opposite an illustrator at work and there have been times when I have seductively told him to paint me like one of his French girls, to which the only response I¡¯ve received are eye rolls. Then one day I came to my desk to find an illustration of me pinned to the board. It had a message scrawled under, ¡®To the face that shines brighter than the sun¡¯. I realised I became his ultimate french girl and boy, was I pinned to him!

7. You know what makes me feel my man is a keeper? He has seen me without being dolled up and he likes that more. I have to often record news segments and it can get extremely exhausting. I started as an intern and went onto become a full time employee. He has seen me grow and the quality of my work improve, that respect is visible in his eyes. It is what has drawn me towards him. Love is great but respect helps you navigate the twists and turns of life. Despite being the cameraman filming me everyday, he has never made me feel that I have a bad angle to my face. He wipes my insecurities away.
